I became a member of AAI in 1995 when our daughter was diagnosed at risk of anaphylaxis to multiple foods. Prior to this we had struggled to find answers to her allergies and managed alone. We are a very atopic family with 2 of us having multiple food allergies, 3 of us have asthma and all 4 of us have allergic rhinitis and eczema. So it was wonderful to find AAI and realise we were not alone. Hence my ongoing desire to raise awareness of allergy and anaphylaxis and help improve the day to day life of those living with severe allergy. In 1998 I took on the role of the organisation’s treasurer and still hold this position today.
With my business background, I have had the chance to develop and improve the operation of the organisation, develop membership services, resources and outreach to include all states and territories.
My work with AAI is extremely important to me and continues to be very rewarding. Over the years AAI has achieved so much and helped change the face of severe allergy management in Australia. When my daughter was at school no one knew about food allergy, now through the work of AAI and other key stakeholders, anaphylaxis is recognised by all state health and education departments. |
