Who is Anaphylaxis Australia Inc?

Anaphylaxis Australia Inc is a charitable, non-profit organisation established in 1993 to support and assist those affected by anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis Australia Inc (AAI) is dedicated to assisting individuals and their carers in the management of anaphylaxis. AAI’s aim is to enable them to cope with every day life whilst minimising risk to their health and wellbeing.

Anaphylaxis Australia strives to raise awareness of life threatening allergy in the community and provides science-based information, resources and services to support children and adults living with anaphylaxis.


Background
Founded in 1993 by Meg Johnson, originally called Food Anaphylactic Children Training & Support Association Incorporated – Anaphylaxis Australia Inc is Australia’s largest national non profit organisation providing information about food allergy and educational resources to those affected by food allergy, to schools, health professionals, the food industry, and government officials. Meg Johnson established the organisation because of the lack of information available when her own son was diagnosed with egg allergy as an infant.

Mission
To raise public awareness, provide advocacy and education, to provide support to of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.

Membership
AAI has members in all states and territories. Members include people who have food allergy, parents of children who have food allergies, school officials, and medical and food industry professionals.

AAI Medical Advisory Board
Educational materials provided by AAI are reviewed for medical accuracy by the AAI Medical Advisory Board, which is comprised of the leaders in Allergy and Immunology in Australia.

Projects
Developing resources and educational material. AAI provides workshops and seminars. AAI continues to work with government departments to develop guidelines on the recognition, management and emergency treatment of anaphylaxis in the preschool and school setting.

International Partnership
The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Alliance (FAAA) was established in 1999 by Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) in the USA to facilitate information sharing among non-profit organizations working in the field of food allergy around the world. In addition to AAI, FAAA is comprised of groups from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Quebec, New Zealand, Italy and the Netherlands.
