| Living with the risk |
|
You can lead a close to normal life, even if you are at risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction. While many people feel alone, overwhelmed or even angry when they are first diagnosed, remember that help and support is available. Here are some ideas to help point you in the right direction • Get up to date information and support by becoming an Anaphylaxis Australia member. Join online now! • Ensure you carry your medication with you at all times. • Plan ahead. • Allow extra time when shopping - always read labels and understand different ingredient names. • Educate those around you. • Take safe food with you where ever you go unless you know safe food will be available. • Keep up to date with product changes and the latest research. • Don’t hesitate to ask questions. • Remember to check expiry dates on your adrenaline auto injector, practise with a trainer device, read through your Action Plan for Anaphylaxis and have an emergency drill from time to time. • Stay under the care of an allergy specialist and see them every year or two or as advised |
